LMU to Host the Los Angeles Rams 2024 Training Camp

May 21, 2024

Dear LMU Colleagues,

Last fall, we announced that we are the exclusive higher education partner of the Los Angeles Rams, a collaboration that has yielded significant outcomes in support of our students, faculty, and community. Today, I share exciting news: we will host the Rams Training Camp on our LMU Westchester Campus for three weeks in July and August.

The university welcomes various off-campus guests, events, conferences, and summer camps every summer. However, the complexities associated with hosting the Rams will require substantial work from our colleagues to accomplish my vision for this undertaking. Allow me to share a few highlights and intended outcomes that underscore my enthusiasm and why I have asked our team to pursue this opportunity:

  • Visibility: The Rams Training Camp will bring thousands of visitors and fans to campus who have never experienced LMU. These guests will enjoy our beautiful, nationally-ranked campus and interact with our community and campus services. In doing so, they will understand why LMU is on the rise as we advance a core commitment of our strategic plan: extending our reach beyond the bluff. As we continue activating our university externally, our visibility will be elevated considerably by the presence of Rams players, coaches, and support staff. We anticipate the resulting press coverage will reach millions of viewers and fans.
  • Engaged Learning: Following the launch of our partnership, we have been overwhelmed by student interest in Rams-sponsored internships and faculty interest in expert-led instructional panels and engaged learning opportunities. The Training Camp will increase internships for students seeking real-world experience working with a powerhouse professional sports organization.
  • Developing Opportunities: We will leverage this opportunity to (1) bolster our prospective student recruitment and retention efforts; (2) advance our engagement efforts with donors and alumni; (3) showcase our capacity to partner with organizations seeking future conference locations.

We anticipate that the training camp will take place from July 27 to August 7, with setup beginning as early as July 11, 2024. (The dates are subject to confirmation as the Rams finalize their competition schedule.) The Rams will occupy many areas and facilities during their stay, and LMU Athletics, in particular, will be navigating disruptions to their summer operations.

I thank Athletic Director Craig Pintens, our coaches, and our teams for managing temporary relocations and changes associated with hosting the training camp. I also thank Student Affairs and our academic deans for accommodating changes to their summer operations. I am especially grateful to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rosemarie Rae, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Communications, and External Relations John Kiralla, and our colleagues in Administration, Operations, and MarComm for their dedication and professionalism. These colleagues are taking on additional tasks and have, in some cases, modified vacation plans to bring this initiative to life. Please heed their calls when they request your assistance and flexibility in the months ahead.

Our ambitious efforts will continue to succeed through your continued goodwill and collective strength. To our colleagues who are making this possible: thank you for propelling our university to new heights.

With sincere gratitude,
Tim
