Strategic Planning Process Begins

Dear LMU Community,

As I continue to meet with students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, regents, donors, and friends of LMU, I am reminded again and again of the profound care this community has for our university, for who we are, what we value, and what we are called to become.

At this important moment in LMU’s history, we are beginning work on our next strategic plan. This process will help us discern our highest priorities for the years ahead and identify how we can best advance LMU’s mission in service of our students and the world we are preparing them to lead.

These questions were also at the heart of Provost Weaver’s recent Community Conversations, which invited members of our community to reflect on LMU’s future and the opportunities ahead. We will build on those conversations as we begin a university-wide strategic planning process.

This effort will be guided by a steering committee composed of representatives from our student, faculty, staff, and trustee communities. The members of the committee can be found here.

I will ask the committee to help lead a thoughtful, focused, and inclusive process that results in a strategic plan that is both ambitious and actionable. The committee’s work will include two primary responsibilities:

  • Leading a university-wide process of institutional learning about our opportunities, challenges, and priorities, in dialogue with LMU’s Board of Trustees and other leadership groups;
  • Envisioning and drafting an operational strategic plan informed by that process; inviting community feedback; revising the plan as appropriate; and submitting a final recommendation for my review before it is shared with the Board of Trustees for their approval.

In the fall, we’ll have opportunities for you to participate through conversations and other forms of engagement. I thank you in advance for taking part. Your perspective will help shape a plan that reflects our community's aspirations and shared commitments.

I am grateful for the dedication you bring to our students, to one another, and to the mission that unites us. Thank you in advance for engaging in this important work and for helping us imagine the next chapter of LMU with courage and hope.

With gratitude,

Thomas Poon, Ph.D.
President and Professor
