Thank You, SVP Wilch

10.22.2025

Dear LMU Community,

It is with heartfelt gratitude and warm congratulations that I share that Peter Wilch, senior vice president for University Advancement, will be leaving LMU to accept a new position as chief advancement officer for an institution closer to home (announcement forthcoming). This opportunity allows Peter to live full-time with his partner, as his new role is based near their residence in Northern California.  His last day at LMU will be November 3, 2025.

Peter’s mission-driven leadership has unified University Advancement and amplified LMU’s ambitious campaign across campus. The momentum generated during his tenure is reflected in our remarkable accomplishments. During Peter’s tenure, LMU achieved its three best fundraising years during fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025. Average annual fundraising productivity increased by 50% compared to before his arrival. Over the past five years, the advancement team secured 52 gifts of $1 million or more in support of campaign priorities and raised over $100 million in scholarships benefiting all areas of campus. Peter played a key role in securing several transformative philanthropic commitments, most notably the $25 million challenge grant from the Leavey Foundation for the Engineering Innovation Complex (EIC)—the largest non-estate gift in LMU’s history. To date, approximately $60 million has been raised for the EIC, making it the university’s largest capital fundraising initiative.

Thanks to his work in partnership with Chancellor Mike Engh, the LMU Board of Regents has reached its largest size in a decade and is actively focused on LMU’s highest strategic priorities. Peter has closely collaborated with President Snyder, Chancellor Engh, the campaign committee, and me to foster philanthropy among both trustees and regents. These efforts have raised board giving from 10% to 25% of the campaign total, with commitments from board members now exceeding $110 million.

Peter’s leadership has been marked by strategic foresight and genuine consideration for others. He has shown a steadfast commitment to LMU’s Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount mission, ensuring that every team member’s voice is heard and valued. The advancement team Peter built and the best practices he established will continue to benefit LMU for years to come.

As we look ahead, we are committed to ensuring a seamless transition. Interim leadership for University Advancement will be announced soon, as I remain dedicated to sustaining the momentum of our campaign and philanthropic efforts. Your continued support and engagement are essential as we rally support for LMU’s bright future.

Please join me in expressing our gratitude for Peter Wilch’s leadership and service to LMU. We wish Peter and his partner, Regina, all the very best as they embark on this exciting next chapter.

With appreciation,
Thomas Poon, Ph.D.
